This map provides the approximate locations of asylums across England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Currently, it covers mainly public asylums admitting pauper patients, built and/or operating during the nineteenth century; in the future it will be expanded to cover private asylums and those funding by subscription or charity, and to add further functions.
